Last year I went to Greece with my father. We had planned the trip before the school year started and we went in July. When the day came for us to leave I was both excited and nervous, I had never been out of the country before then. We drove to Orlando and waited to board our plane to New York. After the somewhat peaceful flight, we experienced the annoyance of the busy New York airport. We had to wait four hours for our connecting flight to London; the wait was painful because I was so excited to get there. Once we got on the flight I was getting extremely excited, but my excitement was short lived. The flight was extremely bumpy the entire six hour flight to London. Then the final flight to Athens was a short and nice flight to end the day of flying. When we got of the flight we found our tour guide and with some other people on the tour, we got through customs very fast. The next two days we had free time in Athens and we enjoyed the many distinct features of a foreign country. The next day we went to see the Parthenon, which is the ancient temple of Athena. The Parthenon sits on a small mountains and the climb up to it was harder than I first thought. The way we climbed up we could see all of Athens and smell the dirt from the gravel under and around the Parthenon. It was a magnificent sight and the fact that it was built over three thousand years ago makes it even more magnificent. The next day we packed up our stuff from the hotel and when to the city next to Athens for their docks. Then we boarded a cruise ship and the boat set sail for the islands of Greece. Of the Islands we went to I liked Santorini and Crete the best. In Santorini we saw the volcano that formed Santorini and went to see the city that was on the island. The city was very strange because the houses were built on top of each other on the side of the cliff. We then took a cable car back down to the boat and that was scary considering I’m very afraid of heights but I was told that the view on the way down was breathtaking. Then we went to Crete and saw the city of Knossos, which is the oldest city in Greece and her islands. The islands of Greece were my favorite part of my trip there, but there are two more weeks left in my trip there.
